Lahan Municipality Hands Over Permanent Homes to 24 Dalit Landless Families

Lahan Municipality has provided permanent housing to 24 Dalit landless families in Jahadi Gamhariya, Ward No. 22. The newly constructed houses were officially handed over to the beneficiaries on Tuesday under the municipality’s Safe Housing Program for disadvantaged communities.

The recipients include some of the most economically vulnerable families from the Musahar and Ram communities, who had previously been living in makeshift thatched huts. The municipality built the new homes on the same land where the families had been residing.

Constructed through a joint investment by Lahan Municipality and Habitat for Humanity Nepal, each house consists of two living rooms and a kitchen. The structures feature corrugated metal roofing, while bamboo-based plastering has been used in the walls to provide durability and comfort.

According to the municipality, the project was completed with an investment of Rs 8.29 million from the local government and Rs 2.03 million from Habitat for Humanity Nepal. Beneficiary families also contributed labor worth approximately Rs 2.57 million, while technical support was provided by the Bhawani Integrated Development Center.

Municipal officials said the houses are designed to last for more than 30 years, offering long-term security and improved living conditions for the families.

Just days earlier, Lahan Municipality had handed over similar homes to 20 Dalit landless families in Ward No. 13. The municipality said it is continuing to construct comparable housing projects in other areas as part of its efforts to improve the living standards of marginalized communities.
